Abstract

The author characterizes a new theoretical and methodological approach to explaining electoral choice, an approach based on the principle of integrating the influence of the environment and the individual’s cognitive abilities. Problems of perception of political information (peripheral and central modes) are in this context analyzed, as well as phenomena of party identity, conformism. Correlation of the rational and the pseudo-rational in political choice is discussed.
