Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of political perception in Russia which the researchers of the Department of Political Sociology and Psychology, Faculty of Political Science,Lomonosov Moscow State University have been carrying out for more than 15 years. Authors focuson images of politicians, authorities and political parties formed in the mass consciousness of Russiancitizens. Analysis of the empirical data of 2013‑2014s, as well as of previous years revealed some trends andpatterns in political perception in the new political context that emerged during the third presidential termof Vladimir Putin. Results of the study confirm that the mass consciousness in Russia, though complexand multidimensional, is becoming increasingly homogeneous. The events of 2014 opened the window fora long-needed public consensus on national values that has replaced the fragmented mosaics of the 2000s.Economic problems and aggravation of the global situation don’t destabilize the country, but lead to socialconsolidation and a return to traditional values of Russian political culture such as justice and patriotism.People also think that for successful development of the country Russian authorities should create a strongstate that will be able to determine its own path, including the form of democratic system. Our study alsoshowed a tendency of growing need for security (the need for stability and order) among citizens.
