Abstract

With Komi Republic as example, the author attempts to find out probable ways of transformation of authoritarian regional regimes toward their more appreciable democratization. Prospect of such evolution of the situation appears with the authoritarian leader being changed, as it was the case in Komi. The author analyzes both the political and the economic problems facing the regional authorities in the period when the authoritarian mechanisms don’t work any more and democratic ones have not yet been set up.
