Abstract

To complete acquainting our reader with the report of the Institute of Sociology (the journal version), the composition of which was directed by the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences M.Gorshkov, we have chosen for the present issue chapters on problems of both identity of the Russians in the context of their historical self-consciousness and national mentality and of socio-cultural moments of their European identity. What is the evolution of our compatriots’ collective identity like? To what extent are the Russians’ cultural interests «European»? The answers to these questions are mirrored in the research of the Institute of Sociology.
