Abstract

This article is the result of the author’s reflection on I. Pantin’s book “Russian Revolution. Idea, Ideology, Political Practice.” Author of the paper suggests to analyze I. Pantin’s research and sources of Russian revolution. The essential problem is studied by politico-philosophic approach to social phenomena. The review comprises three parts. In part one Gramsci’s approach to ideology studies is examined. The second section deals with reconstructions of the history of Russian Revolution. The last part of review covers problems of the history of social struggles and the genesis of revolutionary party in Russia. Pantin shows that Russian revolution evolved faster than previous explorers suggested. He wrote about tree phases of revolution: 1) preproletarian phase – Narodnik movement, peasant’s democracy and proproletariat’s intellectuals; 2) Narodnaya Volya – struggle with the state; 3) Social-Democracy and organized movement of working class. In the article author writes about Pantin’s main ideas on the process of creating the ideology of revolutionary party, on the causes of political split and the ways of growing the power of revolution. Author gives his opinion about the activities of the government, which brought the revolution nearer. Author tries to prove that Pantin offers the original concept of Russian revolution, which is actual to the future, not to the past. The book revives the ideology in political studies. The main Pantin’s method is that ideology of political position helps to be linked in the process, to become the part of historical movement, to see the historical perspective from inside.
